Re: Process for obtaining Burn Permits

As I am sure that you are aware, outdoor burning will resume on October 1st.  This letter is to inform you of a change to the method for your citizens to obtain a residential burn permit. Georgia Forestry ceased issuing all burn permits in 2021 and placed the burden on the authority having justification. As the City of Auburn falls within the service area of Barrow County Emergency Services, any citizen wishing to conduct an outdoor controlled burn will need to obtain a Burn Permit from Barrow County Emergency Services(BCES). BCES has contracted with GeorgiaBurnPermits.com to obtain burn permits. Nothing has changed with the rules and regulations set forth by Georgia Forestry for outdoor burning other than how permits are obtained. Permits can be obtained by visiting the website listed above or calling 1-844-844-Burn (2876) for further ease of use an app may be downloaded from the website. There is no fee associated with the permits. BCES respectfully request that you send this information out to the citizens of Auburn through your social media platforms as Barrow County will be doing the same. If you have any questions, please contact our office.
