The purpose of the women's gun safety course is to teach basic firearms handling and safety, as well as the fundamentals of shooting. These fundamentals build the foundation for all other levels of shooting. With over 150 women that have taken this free course, it has proven to be a very successful class offered by the Auburn Police Department.
This is a one-day class that is held at the Auburn Police Department from 8am till 12:30pm. The first hour of the class will be in the classroom where you will learn about Georgia Law and the basic terminology & nomenclature of a pistol. After the classroom portion, we go to our outdoor firing range that is located minutes away from our police department. At the range you will be given safety instructions and paired up with a shooting instructor. By the end of the class, you will have been taught the proper way to do the following:
- Proper stance
- How to grip your pistol
- Sight alignment
- Sight picture
- Trigger pull
- Proper breathing
- How to load and unload your weapon
- And of course, how to put rounds on your target!
